PAUSE – PRAY – PLEDGE TOWARDS A COMMITMENT TO ACT

Introduction

A word of thanks to Prof. Miranda Pillay (UWC) for granting us permission to circulate her document, written during 2019 for the Anglican Church, on the MCSA website.

Historically, women have always experienced oppression in our South African society. Covid-19 and the resultant lockdown regulations have once again highlighted this oppression and exacerbated Gender Based Violence. GBV is a collective term used to describe the various forms of violence esp. against women, and is recognised as a global development and health issue. (WHO, 2018)

Let this call for ACTIVISM, motivate us to get mobilised and form supportive actions to eradicate this evil practice in our communities, church families and country. I quote “…What we don’t know about domestic violence can kill us.” from Rachel Louise Snyder. Let us join in collective prayer vigils and commit ourselves to actions that will change the environment in which we live to a violence-free society.
